1. Heather A C2 Crane

Sparrows Offshore have contracted Span Access to design, engineer and install a variety of bespoke access solutions for various work scopes across the UK North Sea.
The overall aim of this work scope was to change out the main winch drum and to achieve this, a temporary davit crane and associated supporting temporary steelwork was to be lifted into place and supported during its construction.

2. BP Mungo Helideck

The BP Mungo forms part of the Eastern Trough Area Project (ETAP) and is a NUI installation sited approx. 22Km from the main processing platform. It is primarily a wellhead platform.

Having completed two successful alternative access work scopes in 2016 & 2017 on Mungo, we had become the default alternative access supplier for BP with successful stories from other BP assets enhancing our track record.

For this work scope, a ruling from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had resulted in NUI platforms having to retrospectively fit a Remote Fire Fighting System (RFFS) to improve the emergency response during the landing of an aircraft on an unmanned installation. Wood were contracted to fit the system, with Span contracted to supply suitable access.

3. BP Mungo AUU

The BP Mungo forms part of the ETAP (Eastern Trough Area Project) infrastructure. It is a NUI that connects several wellheads to the main asset for processing. The emergency accommodation was deemed unsuitable for use and BP commissioned the AAU project to install improved welfare facilities.
Span Access Solutions were asked to design and install an underdeck platform solution to allow the accommodation unit to be commissioned.
Following on from this project Span have been asked to return to reconfigure the platform to allow BP to re-apply the fireproofing under the existing accommodation unit and there is potential for a third reconfiguration to assist in the installation of a remote Thfire-fighting system under the helideck.

4. BP Mungo PFP

The BP Mungo forms part of the Eastern Trough Area Project (ETAP) and is a NUI installation sited approx. 22Km from the main processing platform. It is primarily a wellhead platform.

In 2016, Span Access completed a successful project on the Auxiliary Accommodation Unit and were invited back in 2017 to solve another access problem. The platform’s temporary refuge required extensive repairs to the passive fire protection (PFP) on the underside of the structure.

While technically possible with traditional scaffolding, the lack of pick-ups due to the PFP coating would result in a lengthy installation time and having explored the possibilities of alternative access with Span the previous year, BP were keen to see if we could again be part of the process in delivering another successfully completed project during the crucial summer weather window.

5. BP Magnus

The BP Magnus is one of BP’s most recognisable assets on the UKCS and BP have enjoyed a long production life from the field and asset. In addition to hydrocarbon production from the field, the Magnus also serves as an origin for the Northern Leg Gas Pipeline (NGLP) with gas exports from other nearby installations feeding into the network for transmission onshore to St Fergus via the Brent’s.

Repairs were required on one of the riser systems. A previous attempt to construct traditional scaffolding access at the location had failed due to the length of time to install and the subsequent risk of wave contact rising due to this.
